Airport-to-city distance is the single most useful number when you are planning an arrival, and it is surprisingly hard to find in one place. Here are all six airports we cover, measured on the road network rather than as the crow flies.
| Airport | City | Distance | Free-flow drive |
|---|---|---|---|
| RAK · Ménara | Marrakech | 7 km | 11 min |
| RBA · Rabat–Salé | Rabat | 13 km | 16 min |
| TNG · Ibn Battouta | Tangier | 13 km | 18 min |
| FEZ · Fès–Saïss | Fez | 14 km | 19 min |
| AGA · Al Massira | Agadir | 22 km | 23 min |
| CMN · Mohammed V | Casablanca | 31 km | 32 min |
Two things stand out. Marrakech Ménara is close enough to town that the transfer is barely a journey. Casablanca's Mohammed V is the outlier in the other direction — plan that one properly.
Read the durations carefully
The times above are free-flow: the road network with nothing in the way. They are a floor, not a promise. Rush hour, weather and roadworks all sit on top, and the busier the airport's city, the bigger that margin needs to be.
Why the number matters more than it looks
Airport distance decides three things people usually work out too late: how early to leave for a departure, whether a hotel near the airport is worth it for a dawn flight, and whether a connection through a Moroccan city is realistic at all. A 7 km transfer and a 31 km one are different kinds of plan, not different sizes of the same plan.
It also changes what a delay costs you. On a short hop, losing twenty minutes to traffic is an inconvenience. On the Casablanca run at the wrong hour, it is the difference between making a meeting and rescheduling it.
What actually makes an arrival smooth
- Give your flight number, so a delay moves the pickup instead of losing the car.
- Expect the chauffeur in arrivals with a name sign — you should not be looking for a car park.
- 60 minutes of free wait time is included on airport transfers, which absorbs a slow passport queue.
- Give a full drop-off address. Every minute spent finding the door is a minute you are in the car.
